Khairul sworn in as chief justice.

Justice A B M Khairul Haque has formally taken oath as the 19th chief justice of the Bangladesh.
President Zillur Rahman administered the oath of office of the new chief justice at Bangabhaban at 10:45am on Thursday, the president's deputy press secretary Abul Kalam Azad told bdnews24.com.
Justice Haque, who replaces justice Mohammad Fazlul Karim, was appointed chief justice on September 26.
Prime minister Sheikh Hasina, parliament deputy leader Sayeda Sazeda Chowdhury, former chief justices, judges of the Appellate Division and High Court, senior Supreme Court lawyers and attorney general Mahbubey Alam were present at the swearing in ceremony.
Canbinet secretary M A Aziz conducted the oath taking ceremony.
Haque will serve just eight months until May 17, 2011 when he is scheduled to go on mandatory retirement, law minstry spokesman Mizanur Rahman told bdnews24.com.
Born in Madaripur on May 19 in 1944, Haque obtained his Bachelor of Law degree from Dhaka University and did his Bar-at-law from Lincoln's Inn, London.
He enrolled as an advocate of the District Court, the High Court Division and the Appellate Division of Supreme Court in 1970, 1976 and 1982 respectively.
He also taught part time at Dhaka University law department from 1978 to 1987.
Haque was appointed an additional judge of the High Court Division on April 27, 1998 and promoted to justice of the High Court Division on April 27, 2000.
The president appointed Justice Khairul Haque and four other justices to the Appellate Division on July 14, 2009. He took oath on July 16, 2009.
Currently, he is also serving as chief of the Judicial Services Commission.
Justice Haque issued verdicts on several important cases including Sheikh Mujib murder case and the case that led to the repeal of the Fifth Amendment to the constitution.
Haque is the third-most senior judges in the Appellate Division. Justices Mohammad Abdul Matin and Shah Abu Nayeem Mominur Rahman preceded him in joining the court.
There is a strong possibility that Khairul Haque will head the next care-taker government depending on his tenure and that of his successor.
According to the constitution, the last retired chief justice gets the first preference to become the chief adviser of the interim administration.
